Dynamic Release Technique

A comprehensive equine bodywork combining Craniosacral Therapy, Myofacial Release, and Trigger Point Therapy techniques to help the horse perform their best.

What is Craniosacral Therapy?

Cranialsacral therapy was developed by osteopath and physician John E Upledger.

This therapy facilitates the body’s natural and innate healing processes to provide specific and long-term results.

Cranialsacral therapy uses light finger touch to optimize body movement. It is a gentle and subtle technique that can be highly effective. Cranialsacral technique works with the horses central nervous system and connective tissues, communicating with their cerebral spinal fluid.

Cranialsacral therapy is a technique to evaluate and enhance the horses nervous system.

Cranialsacral therapy is a complementary treatment that releases tension in the body to promote wellness and reduction pain. We are not mechanically releasing the tension, but working within the Cranialsacral network. In other words, we are working with the horses nervous system to facilitate these releases. Communicating, listening, and moving the cerebral spinal fluid throughout the body. Hyaluronan is naturally produced by the body it is the liquid between every layer of the fascia, connecting the entire system. In Cranialsacral therapy, we move this fluid and this allows the opportunity for healing.

What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial Release is a hands-on technique, applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue.

Myofascial release promotes visoelastisity which can help restore elasticity to the tissue promoting healing, pain management, and increased blood flow. Myofascial release was a practice of Andrew Taylor Still, an osteopath in the 1800s, and Myofascial release was made more widely known and spread by John F Barns.

Fascia is a critical tissue of the body, it covers and is interwoven in and through every nerve, bone, and the spinal cord. Fascia is a continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption. When fascia is in chronic or acute dis-harmony, it can become fibrous, sticky and painful.

Myofascial release, can bring the tissue back into a harmony and allows the body the opportunity to heal.

What is Triggering Point Therapy?

Trigger point therapy is a soft tissue treatment that helps release the trigger points within the muscles.

What are trigger points? Trigger points are discrete, focal, hyperirritable spots located in a taut band of skeletal muscle… You can think of it this way: If you have a rope with a knot in the middle, no matter how tight you pull that rope (i.e. stretching), you will never undo the knot in the rope. You must loosen the knot in order to "untie" it. That’s the same for trigger point within the muscle. There’s no way to stretch out a trigger point; the "knot" must be loosened and removed manually.

These trigger points can be painful knots in the muscle, causing discomfort and limited range of motion.

Trigger point therapy, is manual therapy applying pressure to the trigger point areas to help relieve the tension. Trigger point therapy promotes faster, recovery and overall comfort and performance.

Combining these techniques creates the opportunity for the horse to feel and perform their best.

The benefits of these modalities are wide-ranging and come with minimal risk:

  • Pain Relief
  • Mood Improvement
  • Better Work-Ethic
  • Greater Range of Motion
  • Release of Tension
  • Overall Performance Improvement
